Abstract
Self-knowledge should not be locked in an ideological or identity diallel, but fit into the perspective of a dialectic whose outcome is self-gathering. If identity is frozen in an indelible essence, research is confined to a humiliating particularism. The study falls within African philosophy and the philosophy of culture.
